PETE Blain secured a rare double this week as more Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League trophies were decided.

By successfully defending his TC Jay Trophy title, he joins an exclusive list of players to hold that trophy along with the Rotary Cup, which he won last week.

He was well-matched in the final against another fast and aggressive player in Morley Green’s Derek Stubbs, who made the stronger start to take the first frame.

However, Tatton’s Blain turned on the style to claim the next two and retain his title.

He had earlier beaten his Tatton clubmate Steve Bond 2-0 in the semi-finals while a victory by the same scoreline over Wilmslow Cons’ Matt Dale booked Stubbs’ spot in the final.

Meanwhile, the Team Knockout tournament came to a fitting end this week as Wilmslow Cons A took the title following a great night of snooker at the Tatton Club.

They beat Mobberley A in the final to ensure the trophy made its way back to Wilmslow.

Mark Anderson got the ball rolling with a narrow first-frame victory, but a 100-point frame from Mark Newall against Josh Sullivan swung the momentum back towards Mobberley, whose skipper Paul Adkin started in fine style against Jon Wilson as he looked to cement that advantage.

However, a strong comeback on the colours from the Wilmslow man limited the damage, making his narrow defeat seem almost like a victory.

Mike Sullivan then won by over 20 points to put Wilmslow on top before Anderson’s sons Callum and Laughlan brought them home in style.

Callum’s superb 40-point win put them firmly in the driving seat before a composed and clinical display from Laughlan, who finished with more than 100 points in his frame, secured the trophy.
