THE CHANCE of a golfer landing a hole-in-one is about 8,000 to one.

So Mark Lee was justifiably pleased when he managed two in one week.

He completed the par three eighth hole at High Legh Country Club in one shot in consecutive tournaments.

"I think that'll be it now for the rest of my life," said Mr Lee, who works at Goostrey's bakery in Mobberley.

"I'm told it's very unusual to get a hole-in-one at the same hole with the same club."

Mr Lee, 41, joined the High Legh club so he could play golf after work.

"I started playing about six years ago for something to do but now I'm hooked," he said "I try to have a lesson every month."

He credits his perfect shot on the eighth in the Cornwall Legh Cup to club professional Anthony Sproston.

"I'd just had a lesson with the pro before the round so I put it down to him," he said.

Mr Lee watched his playing partners tee off on the 149-yard hole eight - which is called Damsons - before picking up his eight iron and taking his shot.

"It hit the green and rolled into the hole," he said.

"There were quite a few people in the clubhouse at the time and they all saw it too."

He said his partners were happy for him - as were the golfers watching through the windows.

"You buy a drink for whoever's in the clubhouse when you get back," he said.

Mr Lee said his round had not been going well up to that point.

"And to be honest it didn't go very well after either," he said.

Four days later Mr Lee was playing in the Midweek Medal tournament.

His partner jokingly asked if he was going to manage another hole-in-one before he teed off and the pair watched his ball soar through the sky.

"It bounced about five inches from the hole and dropped in," said Mr Lee.

"I was just amazed." Mr Lee said there was no technique to a hole-in-one and he had not done anything special for his two shots.

"No, it's pure luck and if anyone tells you otherwise they're lying," he said.

Fiancee Julia congratulated Mr Lee on his achievement, but was disappointed to learn he was only going to receive a certificate to mark the occasion.

"She was happy until she found out I hadn't won any money for it," said Mr Lee.
