Cyclists demand smoother ride

THE STATE of Knutsford's pot-holed roads will be discussed at a meeting this month.

Jane McHarry will be among the newly-formed pressure group calling for improvements to make life easier for cyclists in Knutsford.

"We have no designated cycle ways," she said. "And if you ride on the road there are a lot of ruts and potholes that could really throw you off your bike."

She said the amount of traffic using Knutsford's narrow streets now made it virtually impossible to cycle.

"Usually I ride on the pavements, which is technically illegal," she said.

Later this month she and two fellow cyclists - Knutsford for Cyclists -will badger Cheshire County Council for improved cycleways.

They want the wider pavements feeding into the town to be designated for cyclists.

Mrs McHarry, of Ashworth Park, also says not enough of Macclesfield Borough Council's £30,000 budget for alternative transport is being spent on Knutsford.
